Dear Friend of NLEI,
Now that the holiday season has arrived, I was especially delighted to receive a letter from Savanna, one of our current students. Her letter reaffirmed the importance of the National Latino Education Institute’s work and motivated us to do even more. I am pleased to share an excerpt from Savanna’s letter and hope that you, too, will be inspired to support our programs which are making a difference in the lives of those we serve.
“I don’t know what my family would have done without NLEI. After losing our jobs, we almost became homeless and pawned anything of value so that we would have food on the table and be secure. After a few months, we found the National Latino Education Institute. My partner, Edgar, and I were both thrilled to accept positions in NLEI’s Summer Youth Employment Program. After the summer ended, Edgar found a full-time position which allowed me to enroll in NLEI’s Bilingual Medical Assistant program. Everyone has struggles but, because of NLEI, we are breaking through the issues and pulling forward to achieve our goals.â€
To continue reaching individuals like Savanna, we need to expand our initiatives that respond to our community’s needs. Many Latinos, hindered by a lack of educational attainment and the English language barrier, are looking to us for leadership.
For this reason, I am hoping that you will join me in making a tax-deductible donation to The Mary Gonzalez-Koenig Education Fund.This special fund supports our educational programs while honoring our dedicated Founder and her high ideals of education and advocacy, as the solution to economic inequalities.
