Bridge to Success (BTS): A pre-vocational contextualized program for individuals possessing a high school diploma or general educational development (GED) credential.
The BTS, now in its second year of operation, prepares participants who lack the basic literacy and numeracy skills necessary to matriculate to one of NLEI’s postsecondary vocational training programs. NLEI vocational programs give participants the option to train for a career as a bilingual medical assistant, medical office specialist, electronic records specialist, bilingual pharmacy technician or phlebotomist. The Bridge to Success curriculum includes studies in reading, math, and language. Curriculum is contextualized and includes dedicated instruction in anatomy, physiology, medical equipment terminology while, at the same time, steadily increases the student’s basic academic skills. The program further addresses the link between academic skills and transition to a career by incorporating topical and contextualized workshops focusing career development in terms of goal creation, financial knowledge and job readiness.
