Bilingual Medical Assistant:
The Bilingual Medical Assisting program is 40 week long and prepares students for entry-level positions as a Medical Assistant. The BMA program is accredited by Commission on Accreditation of Allied Health Education program (CAAHEP) and students are eligible to sit for the AAMA-CMA exam administered by American Association of Medical Assistants. The program trains students in anatomy and physiology, medical law and ethics, pharmacology, microcomputer applications, medical office procedures, medical laboratory procedures, Electrocardiogram, vital signs and phlebotomy. Students are given 15 hours of medical Spanish and 15 hours of CMA Review class to help them pass the exam. Students are able to receive their certification in OSHA and CPR. Once the on-campus training is completed students are required to complete an unpaid 160 hours of externship with a medical facility or hospital assigned by the Practicum coordinator. During their course of training students participate in several events including service learning events, mock interviews with employment department, on-site visits, and workshop/presentations.
Medical Office Specialist:
The Medical Office Specialist is a 40 week long program designed to prepare students for entry-level positions as a Medical office assistant, medical secretary, receptionist, insurance billing and coding specialist, medical transcriber, administrative assistant and medical records clerk. Students are trained to be able to work in a hospital or medical office billing department. Students are able to sit for the National Center for Competency Testing (NCCT) Certification exam for Certified Medical Office Specialist. The program trains students in anatomy and physiology, medical law and ethics, microcomputer application, keyboarding, ICD-9-CM, CPT and HCPCS coding, medical insurance and billing, medical office procedures. Students are provided with training in CPR. Students are required to complete 25 hours of Medical office skills lab and 80 hours of unpaid externship at a medical center, hospital medical records department assigned by Practicum Coordinator.
